What You Should Wear To A Chiropractic Appointment

Woman Having Chiropractic Back Adjustment Osteopath

It’s important to wear what’s comfortable to your chiropractic appointment. For women, that may be a pair of sweatpants or leggings. Men, on the other hand, may feel their best in athletic shorts. Whatever you choose, just make sure that it doesn’t restrict your movements.

Our patients who come in wearing jeans, heels, and heavy jewelry can have a difficult time getting into the positions for their chiropractic adjustments. They may not end up enjoying all the benefits that come with this treatment to the fullest extent. To get a better idea of what you should wear to your chiropractic appointment, call Specific Care Chiropractic today at (239) 369-9109.

Considerations for What You Should Wear to Your Chiropractic Adjustment

Let the physical aspect of chiropractic adjustments dictate what you wear to your appointment. In other words, think about what you would wear to work out or go for a walk or hike.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

The more comfortable you are, the more freely you can move during your adjustment. Keep in mind that comfortable clothing can mean different things to patients. Patient A may prefer to wear their everyday attire, whereas Patient B might like to wear more athleisure, like a pantsuit.

In general, patients feel like they get most of their adjustment when they wear thin fabric with a loose fit. Oversized T-shirts or light sweatshirts would be ideal. It’s important to note if you’re a woman and you usually wear dresses or skirts, you may want to switch to shorts, yoga pants, or sweats. Not only will it help make you feel more at ease, but your skirt or dress could wrinkle during the adjustment.

Make sure your clothing isn’t too tight, especially around your stomach area. Restriction during the session could make you feel uncomfortable, which could work against the treatment your chiropractor administers.

Leave Your Jewelry At Home or in Your Bag

Whenever you play a sport or are active in general, the jewelry typically comes off. You don’t want it to get caught in anything or damaged. The same thing goes for chiropractic adjustments.

However, if you wear a wedding ring, stud earrings, or dainty bracelets, those generally can be fine. Jewelry that’s bulky or hangs should probably be removed. Otherwise, it could get in the way of the chiropractor manipulating your spine during the adjustment.

Avoid Layers

Wearing layers may be a part of your everyday attire, but you might want to consider refraining when you come to our office. If you do, then:

  • You could get too hot.
  • Your clothes could bunch up and wrinkle.
  • Your clothing could pull on your skin, especially if you wear overalls.

In these cases, not only will you be uncomfortable, but your chiropractor could also have a hard time carrying out the chiropractic adjustment.

If you must wear layers, make sure you can easily take them off. For example, a light jacket or hoodie is quick to remove and doesn’t require going into another room to change.

Frequently Asked Questions About What to Wear to a Chiropractic Appointment

Chiropractor Holding Pen Talking with His Patient

We tend to receive various questions from new patients about what to wear to their appointments. To make it easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of the most common inquiries. If you have a question that we don’t address in this article or you have any follow-up questions, we would love to hear from you.

Are Jeans Off Limits for Chiropractic Appointments?

No, they’re not. If you feel the most comfortable and free in jeans, by all means, wear them. However, if you can wear other pants that are a looser fit, we encourage you to do so. Jeans tend to bunch up or cause some friction during adjustment, which may ultimately limit your chiropractor with what they can do.

Should I Wear a Bra to My Appointment?

Just like with jeans, if you feel most comfortable wearing a bra, please do. However, if you prefer to wear a sports bra, that might work better. Sometimes, you have to have your back exposed during a session, depending on the adjustment your chiropractor renders.

With that, wearing a sports bra can give you more privacy, especially because you won’t have to undress.

What Shoes Should I Wear?

Again, comfortable shoes. Sneakers might work best, though. If you’re a woman who likes to wear heels, maybe leave them at home or bring more sensible shoes. Getting on the adjustment table and doing physical activity can be uncomfortable and thereby inhibit you from receiving all the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment.

In some cases, being barefoot works, too.

Do I Have to Bring a Change of Clothes to My Appointment?

It depends. If you wear a suit or business attire during the day, that might be a good option. Just make sure you bring loose and comfortable clothing- a workout outfit would suffice.

If you forget to bring a change of clothes or don’t have time to go home and change, don’t fret. We won’t send you home. Your chiropractor may ask you to remove a layer of clothing or your shoes.

If you know you’ll be coming in for an adjustment that day, consider wearing thinner fabrics or loose-fitting clothing to work if possible.

Can My Chiropractor Modify Their Approach Based on What I’m Wearing?

Absolutely. As we’ve said throughout this article, we want you to feel comfortable. After all, the whole point of chiropractic care is to make sure you feel your best and not have anything holding you back.

All we ask is to be communicative with us about your concerns regarding your outfit and its possible restrictions, and we will tailor the session to whatever you’re comfortable with.
