Plantation Back Injury Treatment

When your back hurts, it affects your entire body. Your back, specifically your spine, is the foundation for your body, and back pain can radiate to your extremities or limit the movement of your limbs. It may also prevent you from going to work, spending time with your family, and enjoying physical activity.

Back pain may result from chronic conditions or a lifetime of bad posture, but it can also be the result of a back injury. You may have hurt your back in a fender bender on Route 817 or by falling at Walmart Neighborhood Market on North Pine Island Road. Whatever the cause, your back injury can affect your daily life both now and in the future.

Back injuries can linger and cause chronic pain. It is critical that you seek prompt treatment, as an untreated injury can lead to long-term health problems. Our chiropractors at Specific Care Chiropractic offer holistic treatment to ease your back pain and heal your injuries.

Chiropractic Treatment Plan for Your Back Injury

When you seek treatment for your back injury at Specific Care Chiropractic, you can expect personalized attention and a plan of care targeting your needs. One of our doctors will start by evaluating your back pain and will then design a treatment plan to heal it, reduce or eliminate your symptoms, and restore your functionality.

Our treatment plans typically include four phases. The duration of your treatment depends on the severity of your injuries and how quickly your body responds to treatment. The four phases are:

Acute Phase

In this initial phase, we work on reducing your pain and increasing your flexibility. We do this with:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments: Back injuries move the spine into an unnatural, painful position. Our doctor will manipulate your spine to bring it back into alignment. These adjustments consist of short, forceful thrusts that restore your spine to its natural, healthy position.
  • Stretches: Our doctor will prescribe you “homework” consisting of targeted stretches to mitigate the tightness and pain caused by your back injury.
  • Massage Therapy: Massage therapy is a type of physiotherapy that relaxes back muscles to reduce tension and pain. Our licensed massage therapist will provide treatment catered to your injury.

Rehab Phase

You will progress to the rehabilitation phase once you complete the acute phase of treatment. This phase focuses on increasing your range of motion and joint function. Like the acute phase, it also utilizes chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy. Our doctor will also give you light exercises to stabilize your spine and reduce your pain.

Strengthening Phase

When you feel you are getting back to your old self, you are ready for the strengthening phase. Here, you will continue with chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy to sustain your improvements. You will also begin a more aggressive exercise regimen to strengthen your muscles. We may prescribe exercises on equipment available in our office.

Maximum Medical Improvement Phase

Maximum medical improvement (MMI) is a legal term. As Florida Statutes § 440.02(10) defines, a person reaches MMI when they can no longer reasonably anticipate further recovery from or lasting improvement to an injury.

When you reach MMI, we will create an ongoing treatment plan to help you maintain your improvements. In some cases, you will not need to come in for adjustments as frequently once you reach MMI.

We Can Work With Your Personal Injury Lawyer

Many patients come to us with injuries due to someone else’s negligence. We frequently treat people who have been injured in car accidents or slip-and-fall accidents caused by outside parties. If that was the case for you, we can work with your personal injury lawyer to help build your case. We may be able to recommend a lawyer if you do not already have one.

Our doctors can help your case by:

  • Documenting your injuries with X-rays of your back and medical analysis of your injuries
  • Providing medical testimony concerning the severity of your injuries and the expected length of treatment you will need
  • Sending copies of your medical bills and records to be used as evidence supporting your case
